What is Passport?

The insertion of an IV, whether peripheral or central, marks an important milestone for a person's healthcare journey. But the insertion and management of IVs across a lifetime and multiple hospitals is challenging.
To help navigate this, a group of clinicians and consumers have come together to develop a vascular access Passport. Within the app, you can document your current, historical and future IVs, as well as link to resources for problem-solving common issues you may face.
It is designed to help ease the load of recording, managing, and planning around your VADs.
Whether you're a patient or their guardian, Passport aims to reduce the need to carry around your medical history and replace this with a simple-to-use app on both Android and iOS.

What about my privacy?

Privacy and your ownership of your own data are of our highest concern. Passport has been designed from the ground up to ensure that you are in complete control and ownership of your data. All your data is encrypted and any communication between devices has end-to-end encryption. This means that only you and who you share the data with are able to read it. In fact, not even our servers are unable to read your data. Your data is your property!
Is my data stored on a server?
Your data is primarily stored on your device. However, Passport allows you to share some data with your clinician so that they can endorse or provide feedback on your future plans. When you share a plan, it is temporarily stored on the servers for a limited time. During this time the data is completely encrypted and only you and your clinician are able to read the data. After the time limit is reached, the data on both the server and your clinician's app self-destructs. Any private data stored on the Passport servers are completely encrypted and only stored temporarily.
We also give the opportunity for you to help us improve the app by providing us with usage data (e.g. number of logins etc). This is strictly opt-in only, completely anonymous, and does not collect any private or medical data. By being able to investigate which pages and content are the most used, we can better pinpoint which feature improvements should be the highest priority.

Who made Passport?

Passport is an initiative by the Menzies Health Institute Queensland (MHIQ) from Griffith University. MHIQ is a research institute that identifies key factors that influence health and develop strategies to improve health and well-being for individuals, families, and communities. The Passport app is developed and maintained by the App Factory. Both MHIQ and App Factory are part of Griffith University, a public university in South East Queensland.
